Lord Berkeley is chairman of the Rail Freight Group, the representative body of theUK rail freight industry.
He was Public Affairs Manager of Eurotunnel from 1981 until the end of construction of the Channel Tunnel in 1994 and, before that, worked for George Wimpey on a number of multi-discipline projects around the world.
He sits in the House of Lords from 1994, firstly as a hereditary peer and latterly as a life peer, and was an opposition Transport Spokesperson 1996-7. He is an Alternate Member of the European Energy and Transport Forum, and a Steering Group member of the European Rail Freight Customer Platform. Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport.

Mr Jean-Marie Bertrand, Director General, RFF, Chairman, European Infrastructure Managers Association
Mr. Bertrand graduated in economics and political studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. In 1976, after completing studies at the prestigious ENA (Ecole Nationale d'Administration—the French national school of public administration), he joined the French National Audit Office (Cours des Comptes) as an auditor.
From 1980 to 1983 he was second counselor at the French Embassy in Beijing. He then returned to the Cours des Comptes.
From 1989 to 1992 Mr. Bertrand was secretary general of the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique), the renowned National Center for Scientific Research which spans a wide spectrum of scientific disciplines.
From 1993 to 1998 he was a director at the French Health and Social Affairs Department, in charge of administration, personnel and budget.
From January 1998 to October 2002 Mr. Bertrand was a counselor at the Cours des Comptes.

Mr Colin Hall, Deputy Executive Director, Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies
Colin has worked in the rail industry for 31 years: with British Rail, Network Rail and recently with CER (the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies) in Brussels.
He has extensive experience in rail operations and general management, including 4 years based in New York managing BR's North American marketing subsidiary.
Colin transferred from British Rail to Railtrack on its formation in 1994, as a Zone Production Manager. He developed national management procedures for the new train performance regime in time for Railtrack's privatisation in May 1996.
In 1997 Colin started up a new Railtrack process for Rolling Stock safety approval: his role later widened to include Railtrack infrastructure equipment acceptance.
In December 2000 Colin was seconded to the Community of European Railways (CER) which represents the railway companies of Europe in Brussels, He supported the CER Executive Director as the Infrastructure Expert, and has developed policies for the CER in response to a wide range of EU transport policy and legislative proposals.
In August 2002 he returned to the UK to become the Head of Performance in Railtrack's (subsequently Network Rail) Operations Directorate, responsible for train performance measurement and improvement processes.
In April 2004 Colin returned to CER in Brussels to take up the position of Deputy Executive Director, and specializing in rail passenger policy matters.
Colin is 55 and is married with 4 daughters. His home in Britain is in Reading, Berkshire. He has an Oxford University MA in Modern Languages (French and German).

Christian Thing (47) originally received his education through the Danish company, EAC/ØK. After doing his service at the Royal Guard, he joined Copenhagen Business School studying for his B.Sc. and a degree as Bachelor of Commerce, followed by a venture into Insead, France.
Christian Thing has had 8 years working for a German sub-supplier within the automotive industry and after that he has held positions as managing director within Danish shipping and transportation organisations, both in DHL Danmark and APost. Most of his executive positions have been in adjustment and development of logistics companies. His latest position was as managing director for the FLS Group’s Unicon Concrete Inc., USA.
In his private life Christian Thing lives in Gentofte, Denmark, where his family consists of his wife Eva, who is a social worker, a boy 15 years old and a daughter who is 13. The children were the main reason he and his wife went home, as they wanted them to grow up as Danes.
